Albert Moore was one of the most remarkable artists of the nineteenth century. He created many of the celebrated icons of the Victorian era. By the age of 25, Albert Moore had outstripped the artistic preoccupations of his own day and embarked on a solitary search for the secrets of aesthetic perfection. In a series of exquisitely executed oil paintings, he employed the female figure to embody an abstract ideal of beauty that he had discerned from the finest examples of art and nature.
